It also sounds a bit like groove. Feeling the music, the rhythm of nature and its melodies…

Too flowery? Perhaps.

Simply growing healthy vegetables. In companion planting. In a peaceful, mutually beneficial neighbourship.

That’s the plan.

Or rather, the bed plan(ner) for it.

What does that actually mean?

Companion planting and row companion planting are methods for growing plants ecologically and making the best use of available space through pre- and follow-on crops.

The plants are arranged so that they have a positive effect on each other and on the soil life.

Creating a companion planting bed plan is, however, quite involved. That is exactly why we are building a bed planner that helps with plant selection, arrangement and crop rotation.

What our bed planner can do

Plan beds Set up your beds exactly as your garden requires: flexible beds with free planning in the top-down view or in row companion planting. The classic row companion planting on smaller beds is supported just as well as the more refined systems from Gertrud Franck or the Langerhorst family. Grove is very flexible and makes every approach easy to plan.

Include pre- and follow-on crops With grove you plan your bed month by month throughout the year. Pre- and follow-on crops naturally become part of your growing plan, and no space goes unused.

Keep an eye on neighbours and crop rotation Your bed plan shows you directly which plants make good or less good neighbours. And grove also keeps track of crop rotation – so your beds stay healthy and productive in the long term.

Plant database and filters The foundation is a large, constantly growing plant database. The well-designed filters help you find exactly the plants that suit your bed and your plans in no time.

Automatic task planning For each planting, grove automatically creates the appropriate tasks – for example for sowing under cover and planting out. You always know what is coming up next in the garden.

Discover the harvest preview See whilst planning when and from which crops you can harvest throughout the year. Any gaps are immediately visible – and you can fill them straight away.

App & Web

Our bed planner is already available as a web app and works beautifully on desktop, tablet and phone. The native app for iOS and Android followed at the end of January 2026.

Our story

Grove is a passion project – born out of genuine gardening practice and a deep love of ecological growing.

In the summer of 2018, Claudia and I – Thorsten – finished terracing our garden. This gave us more space for vegetable beds, a greenhouse and a snacking garden.

When we started drawing up our planting plans for companion planting the following winter, we quickly realised how much work such planning involves. The idea for a digital bed planner was born.

Claudia, a landscape gardener with a huge heart for the garden, brought her knowledge and love of plants to the project. In 2020 we were hit by a stroke of fate – cancer. Grove went quiet at first, but as time went on Claudia worked on the plant database from hospital.

After Claudia’s death in 2022, Grove lay dormant for almost three years. As a single parent of two children, I didn’t have the strength to carry the project forward at first. Since 2024 I have had a new partner at my side – Anja – who supports me and helps bring Grove to completion. At the end of 2025 I published the first version of Grove.
